FA Cup Final Preview

Chelsea take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley, in what looks to be an intriguing game. This is a huge game for Arsene Wenger in particular, with the gunners missing out on a top four place, for the first time under the Frenchman’s stewardship. Winning the FA Cup may just convince the board that Wenger has at least one more season left.

Chelsea can finish the season with a Premier League and FA Cup double, which would be a fantastic achievement for Antonio Conte and his side. Arsenal have a lot of problems defensively, Laurent Koscielny was foolishly sent off in the last Premier League game of the season, meaning he is unavailable for the game at Wembley. Gabriel is out injured and there are doubts surrounding Mustafi’s fitness, that leaves a patched up defence for Arsene Wenger, with Per Mertesacker likely to start.

With Arsenal’s defensive problems, Chelsea will be rubbing their hands together with excitement. If Mustafi is indeed out, Chelsea could run riot at Wembley. If Mustafi does manage to play, it tightens up the defence a little more. The game was already a difficult one for Arsenal, but has been made even more so with injuries and suspensions to key players.

If this proves to be Arsene Wenger’s last game in charge of Arsenal, he will want to end on a high by lifting the FA Cup. In the coming days and weeks we will know what the decision is regarding Wenger’s future. The speculation surrounding the manager’s future has been a big distraction, as much as the Frenchman will want to deny it. Wenger should have come out and told everyone what his decision is, instead he has let this rumble on for far too long.

Chelsea have had a fantastic season, Conte has them playing some wonderful football at times. Hazard, Costa, Kante and Luiz have all really impressed throughout the season. With Champions League football to look forward to at Stamford Bridge next season, the Chelsea players will want to prove they are good enough to retain their place in the squad in the next campaign.

It is extremely hard to look past Chelsea, they are on good form and are on a high after lifting the Premier League last weekend. Arsenal have big defensive problems, whoever plays at the back for the gunners will have to have the game of their lives. I think Chelsea will win this one, it may just prove to be the final nail in Arsene Wenger’s coffin. Lose this game and Arsenal don’t really have anything to show for this season.
