One to Watch: Chris Chantler

Chris Chantler a talented player, who plays left-back but can also play in midfield is currently playing for F.C. United of Manchester. The 26 year old has played 37 times so far this season, Chantler has been catching the eye since his move to F.C. United.

Chantler started his career at Manchester City, a local lad born in Cheadle Hulme. Chantler played for Manchester City U-8’s and went right through to the first team, a fantastic achievement. Roberto Mancini handed Chantler his first team debut during a Europa League tie against Juventus. The game against the Italian giants fell on the players birthday. However that would be the only first team action Chantler would see at Manchester City, by his standards it was deemed very harsh.

Chantler moved to Carlisle initially on loan before making a permanent switch, signing an 18 month contract in January 2012. Unfortunately for Chantler, injury struck and he ended the season with 12 appearances for the club. He was back in time for pre-season the following campaign, he spoke of his frustration regarding his thigh injury. However, in early February further injury struck, this time an ankle injury kept him out for the rest of the season, Chantler ended the campaign with 25 appearances. Despite his injury, Chantler signed a contract extension with Carlisle.

Chantler had a second operation on his ankle, meaning he would miss the start of the new campaign. After five long, hard months Chantler made his return in a game against Gillingham in November 2013. At the end of the 2013/14 season it was announced that Chantler was one of eleven players to be released by the club.

Chantler signed for Kilmarnock on a one year deal in August 2014. He made his debut as Kilmarnock drew 1–1 away to Dundee. Chantler then provided anassist for Josh Magennis, in a 2–1 win over Ross County on 16 August 2014. He followed that up with another assist for Robbie Muirhead, in another win against Motherwell on 23 August 2014. Chantler continued to impress for the first team, playing as a left-back until he suffered a knee injury that caused him to miss the remainder of the season. After making 26 appearance for the club, Chantler was released at the end of the season.

Chantler joined F.C. United in January last year and has played 54 times overall for F.C. United, a great return for a fantastic player who has been so unlucky with injuries. At 26, Chantler has many more years in the game, this season Chantler has weighed in with some impressive performances. There is no doubt that Chantler has great ability, Roberto Mancini certainly saw it.

His drive and determination to come back from his injuries shows how strong Chantler is. I really hope that he does not have to go through a long injury layoff again, he is showing what an asset he is to F.C. United and I am sure he will continue to do so.
