Message to All Newcastle United Fans

Saturday evening’s defeat against play-off chasing Sheffield Wednesday was another reminder that Newcastle are not invincible. Before the start of the season, I think many fans underestimated just how to tough the Sky Bet Championship really is.

Newcastle were far below the standards they are capable of on Saturday, however it is a time to stay calm and get behind the team. Newcastle United play Leeds United on Friday at St James’ Park. A tough game, one that will require the full support of everyone in the stadium, bring your scarves – Try and get there early and create an atmosphere that will intimidate Leeds.

If Newcastle do not score early, you get a sense of the disappointment and frustration in the atmosphere at St James’ Park. There are five games left and Newcastle have three of them at home. I cannot stress enough how important it is to make St James’ Park a fortress once again, there have been a number of occasions this season where the atmosphere has been really flat. Gallowgate flags have stepped up and tried to get the atmosphere back – To which they deserve an awful amount of credit.

It seems after a defeat this season, Newcastle fans are quick to voice their frustrations, despite the position the club are in. I have said on a number of occasions, I am still pinching myself that Rafa Benitez is our manager. We are so lucky to have him in charge of our beloved club. I was reading some of the Tweets and Facebook statuses on Saturday night in real shock. I could not believe what I was reading, this gets me on to the point of how I think a lot of fans underestimated the Championship.

The Championship is very long, hard season – A tough slog. If you get out of it at the first attempt, then you should be applauded, whether it is automatically or through the play – offs. I find it difficult to understand how many people do not realise how hard this league really is. Newcastle are a big scalp in the Championship, every team steps up their game when they play Newcastle – It is like their cup final in many ways. Rafael Benitez has the club in a very good position, Newcastle are 10 points clear of Huddersfield with five games left to play. If someone offered me this situation at the start of the season, I would have been very happy.

Newcastle are on course to go up automatically, Benitez is the best man to lead Newcastle United in the Premier League next season. There were always going to be a few stumbles along the way this season – It would’ve been foolish to think otherwise. Promotion was always the goal at the start of the season and the club is very close to achieving that goal.

We have the privilege of being a part of a magnificent club, each fan can make a difference. So on Friday against Leeds, all the fans have to come together and create the type of atmosphere that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Newcastle are almost there, all of the fans need to play their part and help the club during the final push. Once promotion is secured, we can all look forward to a very bright future in the Premier League under Rafael Benitez. The Spaniard has united the whole city, I haven’t seen this much love towards a Newcastle manager in a while – Probably not since Sir Bobby Robson. We can all play a big part in confirming to Rafa that he made the correct choice of staying with us after relegation.

Newcastle are only a few more wins away from the Premier League and we must stay united. Howay The Lads!
