Champion Conte – Transforming Chelsea

When Antonio Conte took over at Stamford Bridge last summer, there were high expectations. After a disappointing season during the last campaign, the capture of Conte brought a hope that Chelsea would be challenging at the top once more.

After a cagey start under the Italian, Conte changed the formation to a 3-4-3. The change suited Chelsea, it not longer meant Cahill and Luiz were exposed at the back, both of whom look more comfortable than ever. The improvement in Luiz has been astonishing, from a player prone to making mistakes to his performances this season has been incredible. Last season, there were a number of players who were simply under-performing for Jose Mourinho, Eden Hazard went missing for much of the season, adding to Chelsea’s struggles with Mourinho paying the price.

Antonio Conte is a man filled with fire and passion, it is infectious and the players are showing the same feelings on the pitch. The signing of N’Golo Kante has been key to Chelsea’s success this season, the Frenchman is like signing two players – He covers so much ground for his side. Kante fills his defence with confidence, the likes of Cahill and Luiz must love playing with him, Kante takes a lot of the pressure away from the defenders.

The return to form of Eden Hazard has also been influential to the Champions success this season. Hazard and Chelsea were disappointing last season, they have been anything but this time around. Hazard has been a nightmare to play against all season, he now needs to kick on and keep putting in impressive performances. Hazard on top form is almost impossible to play against, he can be mentioned amongst the world’s best if he continues to reach the same heights of this campaign.

There have been a few surprises in the Chelsea side this season, Victor Moses being one of them. A player who has been loaned out on a number of occasions over the last few seasons – He had failed to really establish himself in a side. However, this season he has really lived up to his promising potential. Moses is now the player a lot of people thought he could be, it is important he shows the consistency over the next few seasons, he cannot afford to make this season a one off. The formation change by Conte has also suited Moses, he works so hard for the team, something he is not praised enough for. Moses, has contributed three goals and two assists this season, something he will be looking to improve on over the next campaign.

Many people will say, Chelsea have had the luxury of not having to play in European competition this season, much like Leicester City last season. It is an advantage but it certainly takes nothing away from their achievement this season. Conte has taken the Premier League by storm, you do not need experience of the league to be successful in it, despite what numerous of pundits say. If you do your homework on any league, really study it you will succeed. Conte has proved that this season.

Antonio Conte will make improvements to the squad in the summer, he now needs to build a team capable of coping with the demands of Champions League football next season. Diego Costa’s future is up in the air, something that needs to be sorted out as soon as possible. Costa maybe a fiery character, he can overstep the mark on occasion. However, when Costa controls his fiery temper, he is sensational there’s no doubt about it. It would be a big loss to not only Chelsea but the Premier League if he were to leave. Costa is a character, one of very few in the Premier League these days. Love him or hate him, it is never dull when Costa is around.

Conte has transformed Chelsea this season, he will now look to improve the fortunes of English sides in the Champions League next season. Conte has everything it takes to make Chelsea a real force domestically and in European competition. The future looks very bright under the Italian and he is a great personality to have in the Premier League.
