City Have The Chance to Keep Title Race Alive

Manchester City travel to Stamford Bridge with a chance of keeping the title race alive, providing they pick up all three points. Chelsea’s shock defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace over the weekend, leaves Manchester City with a golden chance to capitalise on Chelsea’s rare slip up. If Manchester City do beat the league leaders tonight, it will mean that Chelsea would be on the end of back to back defeats for the first time this season.

Manchester City will be looking for some revenge after Chelsea ran out 3-1 winners in the reverse fixture. Chelsea have been in incredible form for the majority of the season, the blues looked to be running away with it, however City can change that this evening. Chelsea were unfortunate to lose against Palace at the weekend, creating a whole host of chances.

Match Preview

Chelsea will again be without Victor Moses, the wing-back out with a toe injury and missed the shock defeat against Crystal Palace. Chelsea have not lost back to back home matches since November 2011 under Andre Villas Boas. While, Antonio Conte has not lost successive club league games since he was manager of Atalanta in November 2009.

After two draws against Liverpool and Arsenal, Manchester City will be hungry for all three points against the league leaders. Manchester City are currently 11 points behind Chelsea, a gap that Guardiola will want to shorten as soon as possible. City do have a healthy 5 point cushion between themselves and neighbours Manchester United in fifth place.

Bacary Sagna remains sidelined for Manchester City with an abductor injury, he is set to be out for a few weeks. Guardiola welcomed Gabriel Jesus back to training on Monday, the Brazilian looks set to be able to make a comeback before the end of the season.

This looks set to be another huge test for Pep Guardiola and his team. Chelsea may have suffered a defeat over the weekend, however I find it difficult to see the leaders slipping up again tonight. Manchester City’s defence is simply not good enough at the moment and I think Chelsea will exploit that. Chelsea have some tough fixtures coming up, including this one, I think the gap will not be as big come the end of the season.

If City are to get anything from the game tonight, they will have to hope that Chelsea have another rare off day. City will also have to make sure they are on the very top of their game defensively, something they have failed to do for the majority of the season. I am going with a Chelsea win here, I just can’t see Manchester City containing the leaders, especially with how they are defensively.

Prediction: Chelsea 2 Manchester City 1
