Clear Out Needed at Manchester United

Another game and yet another draw for Jose Mourinho’s side last night, the latest one coming against Everton at Old Trafford. Manchester United made Jose Mourinho their manager in a bid to get the club challenging on all fronts. With a top four spot looking increasingly unlikely, Jose Mourinho must be thinking about a good summer clear out.

There are players on Manchester United’s books that are not good enough to be at the club, or their career’s have seemingly run their course at Old Trafford. There are players at the club that Mourinho clearly does not want at his disposal. Matteo Darmian, there was a lot of excitement upon the Italians arrival, the right-back tortured England during the 2014 World Cup. However, the Italian’s performances started to deteriorate for Manchester United and he has since featured sparingly. Eight of his eighteen appearances have seen him play at left-back. It is clear that the Italian does not feature in Mourinho’s future plans. James Wilson, a player with so much talent and a lot to offer given the correct environment, Wilson must move on if he is to become a success. Unfortunately for Wilson he has been left in the shadow of Marcus Rashford, since his astonishing rise Wilson has been forced out. Ashley Young, it surprises me that Young is still at Manchester United, a player that had offered so much in the early part of his career, Young is very inconsistent. Although Young has played ahead of Luke Shaw at left-back this season and has been loyal to the club, surely it is time for him to be moved on. There are much better players out there that will improve the squad. Luke Shaw, Mourinho doesn’t like Luke Shaw and his criticism of the youngster has been damning. When fit and confident, Luke Shaw can be a fantastic full back, he has so much potential and it would be a shame to see Shaw forced out of the club by Mourinho, however that seems to be the way it is going. Shaw needs to have a manager that gives him support and in turn his confidence will be boosted – Then we will start to see the player that showed so much promise at Southampton. Shaw will have plenty of takers in the summer.

The players mentioned above are only a few of the group that could well be on their way out of the club. The likes of Adnan Januzaj, Chris Smalling and Wayne Rooney could also be placed in that group. Januzaj has been on loan at Sunderland and you would think his time is up at United, the next move of his career will be an important one. Januzaj has a lot to offer, however he lacks the consistency to force his way into the Manchester United team. Mourinho will no doubt have one eye on the summer, he will have his targets in mind. The squad needs a good overhaul if they are to get anywhere close to challenging for the league next season. Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are not good enough and a prone to making mistakes. Wayne Rooney, who I believe has a lot more to offer, will more than likely be shipped out of the club. Rooney has a few years left and can still play at the top level, however Mourinho does not like players who appear to be bigger than he is.

Whatever Manchester United’s final league position will be at the end of the season, it is sure to be a busy summer ahead at Old Trafford.
