Loftus-Cheek Should Seek a Move Away From Chelsea

Ruben Loftus – Cheek has the talent to be in a Premier League starting 11, however his development is at risk if he stays at Stamford Bridge. There were a number of clubs enquiring about a loan move for the player in January, however Chelsea refused to let him leave. Something that seems very strange considering his is rarely getting a look in at Chelsea.

I would hate to see Loftus – Cheek’s talent wasted by staying at Chelsea and not playing. Newcastle United were one of the clubs that enquired about the players services in January, a move that would have made sense for the youngster. He would have been working under another fine manager in Rafael Benitez, more importantly he would’ve been playing in the majority of the games. Game time is important for any youngster, Chelsea loan out a huge amount of players to allow them to continue their development, Loftus – Cheek should be no different. The Chelsea youngster scored twice for England U21 against Denmark last night, he has played just EIGHT minutes of league action since January. Chelsea made the decision to keep the youngster at the club in January, a decision that has backfired, why keep him there and not play him? Loftus – cheek has the talent and deserves a chance to play first team football.

In the past there have been players who have moved from the bigger clubs, in order to get game time because they became sick of the lack of opportunities. If you look at the likes of Michael Keane who moved from Manchester United, he is now a vital player for Burnley and recently earned an England call-up. Even Romelu Lukaku moved away from Stamford Bridge in a bid to get more game time, look at him now, in the summer he will have a whole host of players after his signature due to his impressive performances for Everton.

Loftus – Cheek needs to be playing week in week out, it is the only way to continue his development. The only thing Chelsea are doing at the moment is halting that development. Loftus – Cheek playing every week will not only improve his game but I am sure with the talent he possesses he will be in and around the England squad.

Another decision that seems puzzling by Chelsea is the recall of Nathan Ake from his loan at Bournemouth, has he been involved at Chelsea since his return? No. Ake was superb for Bournemouth during his loan spell, he was developing nicely under Eddie Howe. The decision to recall Ake has halted his development. Chelsea must have best interests of the player, the club must know how valuable game time is for young players. If they are to recall players they must be 100% sure that they will be involved regularly for the club.

I hope Loftus – Cheek realises he is better off away from Chelsea. He should move elsewhere if he wants to have a successful career in the game, he cannot afford to be starved of first team action by Chelsea. The youngster must think very carefully about his future in order to fulfil his ambitions.
