Power Shift in North London Continues

Tottenham’s comfortable 2-0 victory over fierce rivals Arsenal, all but confirmed the power shift in north London. Tottenham are guaranteed to finish above their neighbours for the first time since 1995.

The Managers

Arsene Wenger who has done an incredible job for Arsenal, has now become out of touch with the modern game. The Frenchman needs to adapt and change with the times in order to challenge for league titles. Wenger seems to be stubborn, in that there is only one way, his way has been found out in recent years and Arsenal are being punished all too often. The lack of quality in the Arsenal side is obvious, if Wenger is to stay beyond this season, he must strengthen the team. If he doesn’t Arsenal will fall further and further behind.

Mauricio Pochettino has made sure every single player in the Spurs dressing room, knows what their job is. Tactically astute, the Argentinian has transformed Spurs from a side on the peripheries of top four contention to title contenders. He has filled the players with confidence and a mental toughness that future champions show. Tottenham are closer than ever to winning the Premier League, if Chelsea do pip them to the title this year, Tottenham will come back stronger in the next campaign.

The Players

Fight, grit, determination and class. That’s just a few of the characteristics Tottenham players possess. Arsenal on the other hand lack leadership, they lack the fight and they are down on confidence. All the signs of a team that lack direction.

Tottenham play with a freedom and a swagger, they now know they are good enough to go up against the bigger teams and get a result. Everyone in the Tottenham side are pulling in the same direction. The same cannot be said for Arsenal, Sanchez cuts a frustrated figure a lot of the time. Oxlade – Chamberlain hasn’t had the game time he deserves this season. Their defence is by no means top four standard, they are found wanting far too often.

Tottenham need to add a few players in order to kick on next season. Arsenal need an overhaul, simple as that. The Gunners need fighters and leaders on the pitch. Players that will get stuck in when the going gets tough, the current crop aren’t up to it.

The Owners

Daniel Levy made the right choice in appointing Mauricio Pochettino, he has taken Spurs to the next level. The owner has backed his manager and will continue to do so, although some signings such as Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen haven’t quite worked out. Levy understands that Pochettino is the right man to lead Spurs to the title in the next few years.

Stan Kroenke, is the majority shareholder at Arsenal. It appears as though he is just happy for the club to finish in the top four, he likes the consistency that Wenger brings. However, there comes a time where a change is needed for the good of the club. Arsenal are in real danger of missing out on that top four spot. It’s unfair on the fans to watch a team who lack direction from top to bottom. The people at the very top at Arsenal need to make a decision on Wenger’s future. It is time for the Frenchman to leave, the club needs fresh ideas and someone who can help the club challenge for the title again. Wenger should not be allowed to make the decision on his future, if this season was different and they were up there challenging – The the Frenchman would have every right. However, the performance of Wenger and the team this season means the board have to act.

Arsenal Being Left Behind

Arsenal are being left behind at the moment, if some form of change does not happen in the coming months, Arsenal’s decline will continue. If Arsene Wenger stays on, he must be allowed to spend money on the team. Arsenal only have a few stand out players at the club, Ozil and Sanchez, however they do not turn up enough.

The likes of Liverpool, City, United, Spurs, Chelsea and even Everton are investing quite heavily in their squads. The Arsenal board need to be ambitious because there is no doubt that Arsenal are a huge club, with great potential. As previously mentioned, everyone at Tottenham are pulling in the same direction. It is the complete opposite at Arsenal, there is so many divisions in the club. The fans are divided over Wenger, some of the players don’t look like they want to be there and the board seem unsure of their future plans.

Arsenal Fans Deserve Answers

Gunners fans deserve answers from those at the top. They deserve to know the boards plans for the future. The fans pay their hard earned money to watch their club each week, they should know what the clubs ambitions are.

Ian Wright said it perfectly on Match of the Day over the weekend, “The silence is deafening”.
