Premier League Preview

This weekend brings another packed schedule in the Premier League. Below are my predictions for the latest round of fixtures in England’s top flight.

Tottenham vs Watford (Saturday, 12:30 GMT)

Spurs had a fantastic late comeback against Swansea in midweek, a win that was vital in keeping their title hopes alive. They face a Watford side that got three points against a fantastic West Brom side in midweek. That win should lift their confidence a bit, however I believe that Spurs will be far too strong for Watford.

I am going for a comfortable Spurs win – I fancy Son to grab a couple.

Prediction: Tottenham 3 Watford 1

Manchester City vs Hull City (Saturday, 15:00 GMT)

The pressure is beginning to mount on Pep Guardiola, draws against Arsenal and Liverpool and a defeat against leaders Chelsea in midweek, those results mean that nothing but a win against Hull City is acceptable. Hull have been fantastic at home, however they do tend to struggle away from home. Hull have put in some good performances against the big boys this season but I do not see them winning at the Etihad.

Manchester City simply have to win, they need to cement their place in the top four which has come under threat in recent weeks. I fancy Hull to stay up, though this game will be too much for the tigers.

Prediction: Manchester City 2 Hull City 0

Middlesbrough vs Burnley (Saturday, 15:00 GMT)

Middlesbrough are having a real tough time at the moment. They sacked Karanka a few weeks ago, which in my mind was a good thing IF they replaced him with an experienced manager, they failed to do that and are now paying the price. Middlesbrough lost to Hull in midweek, a defeat that leaves Boro in real danger of getting relegated. Burnley on the other hand, if they can get their first away win of the season at the Riverside, that would just about see them safe.

Burnley’s away form will give Boro some hope. However, they way Boro are playing at the moment, you just can’t see where their next three points is coming from. I think Burnley will get their first away win of the season here and pretty much confirm Boro’s return to the Championship.

Prediction: Middlesbrough 1 Burnley 2

Stoke City vs Liverpool (Saturday, 15:00 GMT)

Liverpool are a hard team to call, they dominated Everton last weekend and looked threatening for much of the game. Fast-forward a few days they are drawing at home to Bournemouth. If Liverpool want to finish in the top four this season, these are the kind of games they should be winning. Stoke are a tough team to play against, especially at the Britannia.

Stoke can count themselves unlucky for their defeat against Burnley in midweek. I thought Stoke deserved to get something from that game. I think Stoke might surprise Liverpool in this one.

Prediction: Stoke City 2 Liverpool 1

West Brom vs Southampton (Saturday, 15:00 GMT)

I have to say, I am very much looking forward to this game. You might think this game does not look too appealing, though they are both very good sides. Southampton just need to find that consistency, they were lucky to get a point against Bournemouth, I really thought Southampton should have lost that game. In midweek the saints beat Palace 3-1 so they are a hard team to call. West Brom have been a bit hit and miss lately, it is important to stress what a fantastic season they are having though.

I think this will be an entertaining draw.

Prediction: West Brom 2 Southampton 2

West Ham vs Swansea (Saturday, 15:00 GMT)

This is a massive game for both teams, a Swansea win could see West Ham get dragged back into a relegation fight. A win for the Hammers may just be the knockout blow for the Swans. A win for West Ham should see them safe, I think West Ham will get the three points in this one. Swansea are a good side but are in real trouble. It would be a real shame to see the Swans relegated but that is the reality they face.

West Ham will be too strong for a nervy Swansea side.

Prediction: West Ham 2 Swansea 1

Bournemouth vs Chelsea (Saturday, 15:00 GMT)

Chelsea got back to winning ways in midweek after a shock defeat to Palace at the weekend. Bournemouth are on the back of two decent draws, the latest coming against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

If Tottenham beat Watford in the days early kick off, the pressure will be on Chelsea – It is pressure I think they will handle. I think Chelsea will win this one. Bournemouth are just about safe, it is another excellent season’s work by Eddie Howe.

Prediction: Bournemouth 0 Chelsea 3

Sunderland vs Manchester United (Sunday, 13:30 GMT)

Manchester United’s top four hopes are over now in my opinion, they have had two bad results in a row with draws against West Brom and Everton. If Manchester United want top four, the last two games and this one are the games they have to win. Mourinho is criticising his players trying to get a reaction from them, I don’t think that is the right way to go about it.

Sunderland on the other hand look as good as down, though with Jermaine Defoe up front then anything is possible. Like I have said before this season, if Defoe isn’t on the score-sheet then Sunderland tend to draw a blank. Manchester United can’t draw yet another game can they? I think they will just about edge this one, that would all but confirm Sunderland’s relegation.

Prediction: Sunderland 1 Manchester United 2

Everton vs Leicester (Sunday, 16:00 GMT)

With the Champions League game against Atletico Madrid next week, I think Leicester will have one eye on that. Everton’s top four hopes are over after the defeat against Liverpool. Romelu Lukaku was nowhere to be seen in that game, he hardly had a touch. Leicester have done fantastic under Craig Shakespeare but I think they will lose at Goodison.

Leicester are bound to make some changes with the Champions League in mind, Everton will take advantage of that.

Prediction: Everton 2 Leicester 1

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal (Monday, 20:00 GMT)

This has the potential to be a great game of football. Zaha, Townsend and Benteke will cause all sorts of problems for a weak Arsenal defence. Arsenal look like they will miss out on the top four for the first time under Arsene Wenger, if/when that does happen I think Wenger will walk away.

I think this will be a high scoring draw. You just don’t know what you will get from either side, they are both very inconsistent.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 3 Arsenal 3
