Premier League Preview – Midweek Fixtures

As the seasons draws to a close, the games continue to come thick and fast – With some eye-catching midweek games on show in the Premier League. Here are my predictions:

Chelsea v Southampton (Tuesday, 19:45 GMT)

If this game was played at St Mary’s, I would think Southampton would get something from the game. However, at Stamford Bridge with the title almost within reach of the Blues, I think Chelsea will be too strong for Southampton.

Antonio Conte gave Eden Hazard and Diego Costa a bit of a rest over the weekend, having overcome Spurs in the FA Cup it will fill those Chelsea players with confidence. Southampton are on course for another top ten finish which is fantastic, the club will be hoping to push on next season.

Prediction: Chelsea 3 Southampton 1

Crystal Palace v Tottenham (Wednesday, 20:00 GMT)

Based on recent form, this is a really tough game for Tottenham, Selhurst Park is a real tough place to go and get a result when Palace are on form. Sam Allardyce took a bit of time to turn Palace around but they are flying at the moment. By the time this game is played, Chelsea could be seven points clear of Tottenham, that will increase the pressure on Pochettino’s men. If Chelsea do lose however, the gap could be down to a single point providing Spurs win as well.

I think Palace will continue their impressive form, for me this week decides the title. Benteke, Townsend and Zaha have all been very impressive for Palace of late, Spurs will have a real game on their hands.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 2 Tottenham 1

Arsenal v Leicester City (Wednesday, 19:45 GMT)

After Arsenal’s FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City, the Gunners will be full of confidence going into this game. Leicester are by no means safe, despite the good work of Craig Shakespeare. With Liverpool’s loss at the weekend, Arsenal still have a chance of finishing in the top four. They must win this game.

Leicester have been in superb form under Craig Shakespeare, they are almost safe but still need a few more results to guarantee Premier League football for next season.

I think Arsenal will win this one, it will go a long way to deciding Arsene Wenger’s future, results are starting to pick up again.

Prediction: Arsenal 2 Leicester 1

Middlesbrough v Sunderland (Wednesday, 19:45 GMT)

This is a huge game for two sides in real trouble, neither side can afford to lose this one, a draw is of no use either. In my eyes, both sides are gone – They have given themselves too much to do.

This game should be an entertaining one with both teams fighting for their lives, Middlesbrough have been all over the place for a while now. It is hard to watch their suicidal defending at times. Both of these teams do not score enough, Sunderland don’t tend to score if Jermaine Defoe doesn’t find the target and Boro have struggled for goals all season.

I can’t see anything but a draw in this game, that doesn’t suit either side.

Prediction: Middlesbrough 1 Sunderland 1

Manchester City v Manchester United (Thursday, 20:00 GMT)

This is a massive game in terms of the top four places. Whoever loses this one will be out of the race for a top four finish. Manchester United have been picking up some crucial wins of late, however an injury to Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a huge blow.

With the likes of Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to call upon in the absence of Ibrahimovic, Manchester United are still a big threat in attack. City’s defence will struggle against the pace of a Rashford or a Martial.

This is such a tough game to call, there is no stand out winner jumping out at me in this one.

Prediction: Manchester City 2 Manchester United 2
